The 21st Century University

This is my public place for talking about the purpose of the university in post-industrial society

Socio-cultural evolution

This is my discussion place for talking about the future of society as we learn about learning and change the way we change personally and collectively

The freedom paradox

Clive Hamilton's book shows how we think we buy freedom in our market choices, but in fact there is a much more complex force at work as in seeking freedom we become ever more implicated in forms of control and compliance. This is where I want to discuss the apparent confusion of individuality and collectivity

The support economy

Shoshona Zuboff and her husband have explained the frustrations we have with firms that seem to try to understand our needs and wants in the marketplace of goods and services, but usually don't meet them appropriately, reliably or consistently.

This is my discussion on how to make commercial work more in tune with what citizens need. We seek support for our life activities when we can't be self-sufficient.

This seems to fit with the recent upsurge in so-called service-dominant logic for marketing.
